Summer School Assistants (Grades K-3)– Part Time, Summer
ROOTS is a non-profit dedicated to promoting food security in our community. We work with
local farmers and healthy food advocates to make fresh, nutritious food affordable and accessible to all. Our youth and adult programs focus on enhancing urban agriculture and empowered eating practices for the betterment of our food system.
Farm To Summer School Program: We partner with New Britain Schools to bring food, farming, and sustainability education into the summer school classroom. We serve 120 elementary school students and 34 middle school students attending the summer school session. Class sizes average 15 students.
Job Description: ROOTS is now hiring multiple Assistant Teachers for positions in our Farm To Summer School Program. Assistants work with students in grades K-3 for half day programs.
Assistants support the Head Teacher in setting up activities, classroom management, and supervision.
Program dates are July 19- Aug 10, Monday through Friday from 12-4pm. Activities range from gardening, healthy cooking and eating, and nature based lessons. All positions are contract, non-staff. Compensation for Assistants is $12.50/hr. All applicants must be able to pass a DCF and criminal background check.
Qualifications: Applicants should have a minimum of 1 year experience supervising elementary age youth or a background in youth education. Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate experience with both.
