Job Overview:

We are seeking someone with passion for social justice who knows how to grow food, in the City, using environmentally sustainable growing practices. This person will work in all things “growing food” for FRESH, including constructing new gardens and distributing FRESH food.

Our growing food focus is urban farming and community gardening as a way to build resiliency in our City and to inspire more people to take part in the community food system. With our newest initiative, Edible New London, we envision food grown, all over the city, with New London residents at the center of the planning, leading and ongoing ownership of these projects.

…you have experience with and knowledge of basic carpentry

…you have the ability to think about a long term vision, while implementing project details

…you are highly organized and able to manage and track work on multiple sites

…you have supervised farm workers, volunteers and/or youth

…you are able to work nights and weekends when needed

…you live in or near New London (or are willing to move here and love it!)

…you can lift up to 40 pounds and do regular physical labor

Experience working with youth; interest in youth leadership and youth development is strongly preferred.

Experience with fruit tree and shrub care, season extension, medicinal herbs, livestock and/or permaculture design is a plus.

We have a strong preference for someone who can speak both English and Spanish.

Salary & Benefits: This is a full time, salaried position that will include paid time off, medical and dental insurance. Salary is $30,000 to $40,000 dependent on experience and includes a lighter workload in the winter months. Abundant fresh vegetables.

Special Requirements: Work in urban farm, greenhouse, outdoor classroom and office. Hard and repetitive physical work. Evening and weekend hours, flexibility required. Current driver’s license and clean driving record. Comfortable driving trucks.
