AREA NONPROFIT HOSTS THREE-DAY CONFERENCE ON WOMEN IN AGRICULTURE
Tolland, Connecticut – On Thursday, June 28, 2018 through Saturday, June 30, 2018, Hidden Acres Farm, Inc. is proud to host the region’s first
Where Women Gather: A Celebration of Women in Agriculture Conference and Vendor Symposium at the Omni Hotel at Yale University and Gateway Community College in New Haven, Connecticut,
respectively. Featured speakers include Rowen White (Indigenous Seed Keepers Network), Lisa Kivirist (author, Soil Sisters), Katie Stagliano (Katie’s Krops), Lise Metzger (photographer, The Grounded Women Project) and Eric Holt-Gimenez and Ahna Kruzic (Food First). The conference will also host the Honorable Mayor Toni Harp of New Haven, Connecticut and Connecticut Department of Agriculture Commissioner Steven K. Reviczky.
“The contributions of women and girls to agriculture are rarely recognize as core to humankind’s survival”, observed Michelle Louise Bicking, Executive Director of Hidden Acres Farm, Inc. “We need to recognize and share that legacy in order to lay the groundwork for succeeding generations.”
Where Women Gather is open to the general public. Exhibitors of all ages, backgrounds and lived experiences are welcomed, with an emphasis on Latinx, First Nations, African American/Black and Asian American Pacific Islander business owners. Breakfast and snacks will be provided, as well as access to a “self care clinic” featuring integrative health modalities at no additional charge. CEUs are available through the Connecticut Certification Board, with CEs pending from the National Association of Social Workers Connecticut.
